RED Mountain Resort Guide

Insider tips from our team

The Skiing

Up to 2013, the skiing had been spread over the gnarly peaks of RED and Granite, both offering some truly incredible groomers and arguably the best steep tree skiing in the world. However, on 20 June 2013, RED Mountain was granted permission for one of the single largest and certainly the most exciting terrain expansions in North America. Adding a further 997 acres on Grey Mountain, this has taken total lift-serviced area to 2,787 acres. The terrain allows skiers and snowboarders to enjoy this epic, former cat-skiing terrain.

In 2015, RED expanded its terrain again with new cat-skiing access on Mount Kirkup by nearly 200 acres of gladed tree skiing, inclusive of three newly cut runs on the south side of Mt Kirkup. This terrain has 1,600 feet of vertical drop, previously only accessible by hiking and ski touring. The cat-skiing operation acts as a shuttle from Grey Mountain to the peak of Mount Kirkup with seats sold on a first-come, first-served basis for only $10 per run with the purchase of your lift ticket. Essentially, RED gives their guests a taste of backcountry cat-skiing (typically around $550 a day) for the price of a beer at some other resorts!
