General

Childcare - Tot Town Daycare was voted 'Best Place To Be Abandoned by Your Parents' by 'Ski Canada' magazine and is ideal for the pre-ski child (18 months - 5 years). The Kids’ Centre offers a whole host of childcare options including an After Dark Program which offers dinner and tubing at the Mega Snow Coaster; hot chocolate and skating and a dinner and activities night with board games and movies.

Weather - Big White enjoys some of the best weather in British Columbia. They boast an average temperature of -5 °C (23 °F) which is really quite pleasant. However, it can still be cold and some of the chairs are quite exposed so layer up and make use of face masks!

Supermarkets - The Market at Big White is great for groceries and also includes a deli and liquor section. They also offer a pre-booked grocery service and delivery which makes life so much easier! Vacation Food Services let you purchase all your groceries online before you arrive and they will be delivered and waiting in your condo when you arrive. Smart Start Meal offer ready-to-cook dinners, lunches, etc. delivered right to your chalet/condo, ready to cook or heat and serve.

On the Slopes

Families and kids - Big White is a frequent award winner when it comes to offering a fantastic experience for kids and families. The dedicated beginner area in Happy Valley with its magic carpets is perfect for a relaxed and peaceful learning experience. Additionally, many of the accommodation options are ski in ski out to lovely green runs like Easy Street and Hummingbird making life significantly easier for parents!

Intermediates - Intermediates of every sensibility will love Big White. Over 54% of the terrain is marked as blue and they vary from wide, cruisey glade runs to beautifully groomed steeps. The Gem Lake chair offers a huge number of runs that will keep you entertained all day.

Advanced - Head to the Cliff Area which leads to an abundance of untouched powder stashes. The Gem Lake and Westridge area offers the longest runs and some fantastic glade skiing, along with Sun Rype bowl, which is a ‘must ski’ at Big White.

Activities

Kids Mini-Z Snowmobiles - Mini-Z's are miniature snowmobiles that are great fun for kids under 90 lbs (40 kg). Located in Happy Valley Adventure Park.

Dog Sled tours - The trail is approximately 3 miles long and the time spent on the sled will vary from 20 to 40 minutes depending on snow, weather and trail conditions.

Ice Climbing Tower - The structure is a 60 ft Ice Tower! Built with 4 telephone poles cross-braced together then flooded with water which freezes into 3 ft of thick blue ice.

Kelowna Rockets Hockey - Go see the Kelowna Rockets play! The local activities desk will organize a bus and tickets for you for around $34 per person!

Sleigh rides - Join "Tom, Jerry & friends" for a traditional Canadian Sleigh Ride through the wilderness. Kids 5 and under go free.

Snowshoeing - Take a guided snowshoe tour through the Big White Back Country. Tours run throughout the day and last 2 hours.

Snowmobile Tours - This exciting activity takes guests on guided scenic tours through the forest trails and backcountry of Big White Ski Resort. Drive your own snowmobile or double up with a friend. Drivers must have a current drivers’ license and be 19 years or older.

Snow Biking - Come and try the newest sport to hit the hills. Ride the Nordic trails on a K-trak, ski-mountain-bike. There is no age minimum but there is a height requirement of 5 ft.

Mega Snow Coaster Tubing - Offering 5 runs for tubing in the Happy Valley area.

Ice Skating - Canada’s highest elevated outdoor ice rink is perfect for a leisurely glide on the ice or a quick game of pick-up hockey. Skate rentals are available from Happy Valley Day Lodge.

Night Skiing - From mid-December to mid-March, you can ski under the bright lights in the largest night skiing area in Western Canada on selected nights. Night skiing is included on all multi-day lift passes (when available and weather permitting).

Evening Events - There is a regular programme of evening's entertainment including bingo, quizzes, fireworks and family carnivals. See local listings for details.

Bars and Restaurants

With 18 on-mountain restaurants, cafes, delis, pubs and nightclubs, there is no shortage of places to relax or replenish your energy level when it's time for a break.

  • Globe Café and Tapas Bar - Offering an internationally inspired menu to tantalize your taste buds. Rich Italian speciality coffees and healthy breakfast snacks, an enticing selection of homemade dishes for lunch and a full Tapas menu every evening. BC wines and a full cocktail bar complete your dining enjoyment.
  • The Gunbarrel Grill - Variety of Canadian dishes served in a rustic, traditional setting. A must before leaving Big White is the famous Gunbarrel Coffee; it’s a show and a drink all in one, featuring a double-barrel shotgun and flames.

Family Après Ski at Happy Valley - relax with your family after a day on the slopes in the Moose Lounge in the Happy Valley Day Lodge for après. Weekly organised events for families, children and adults, from bonfires and hot chocolate, to fireworks, carnivals, arts and crafts nights, and 50 plus nights for those young at heart. Open 4-6 pm daily.
