It takes a good 20 minutes on the bus from centre of town to reach the bottom of the gondola and then you are another 20 minutes up the gondola. Probably at least an hour and a half from leaving tunnel mountain. We were unlucky the first day with the weather as it 'closed in' and visibility was not very good. Runs are not always groomed and in poor visibility this did cause us some issues. However on better days it was easier to select routes down the mountain. Recommend taking packed lunch daily as the facilities catered very well for this. Slopes very busy at weekends. The town of Banff was lovely and had a variety of eating places. We did a Johnston Canyon Ice walk with Discover Banff Tours which was very interesting and informative.

Perfect place to stay, Banff town has the most beautiful 360 degree views, vibrant village, lots of lovely restaurants to suit every budget, locals love to have a chat with you, ski buses stop right at the door of your hotel, lovely weather, blue sunny skies, what more could you ask for? Skied at Sunshine Village, my favourite by far, something to suit every type of skier or boarder. On good powder days all you hear is the whooping of delight from everyone enjoying their time on the slopes. Also skied Lake Louise, this is an impressive resort... huge, great terrain. Also this year skied at the local hill Mt Norquay. Now people said to us, don’t waste your ski pass on this hill, but have to say this was a wee gem, full of steeps, views are amazing and finished off with the tubing, which was fast and hilarious. This was my 4th visit to the area and I will definitely be back. Everyone you talk to from other countries hold Sunshine village and Lake Louise in high regard, the snow is great, no lift lines to speak of, even on a busy Saturday everyone spreads through the hill,still making it seem really quiet, love, love, love it.
