Snow, Sun & Savings - Skiing in Whistler in March and April

It's another super snowy season in Whistler - close to five metres of snowfall and counting, and a deep, two-metre snowpack. But there's plenty of skiing still to be done. Our tip? Ski Whistler in March or April for the perfect combination of snow, sun and savings.

How do we know that? A lot of experience - our team have visited Whistler almost every winter since 1996, and we’ve helped over 15,000 skiers and snowboarders enjoy it too. More than 50% of our customers are choosing to ski in spring this season, and our team will be there in both March and April too (it'll be my 11th visit!).

"March Madness" & The Deepest Snow of the Year

There’s a misconception that spring skiing means poor snow quality. But the powder days are so frequent in Whistler that locals call it “March Madness”.

Whistler receives as much snow in March as in December and January - over two metres on average and a huge three metres last season. Even better, the snow is falling on a deep, stable snowpack - typically around three metres by March. So you can expect all 8,171 acres of the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains to be open, including off-piste areas like Blackcomb Glacier and Spanky’s Ladder that are best skied with fresh snow on the ground.

That fantastic snowfall and snowpack continue into early April, so you can still enjoy excellent conditions right through to closing day, especially on the upper slopes. This season, Whistler Mountain shuts on 19 April while Blackcomb Mountain stays open all the way through to 18 May. I always think they shut Whistler Mountain too early, but they have to start preparing the bike trails for summer!

Need more convincing? 2026 will be the fifth consecutive year that the Freeride World Tour has stopped off in Whistler, with three days of qualifiers from 17 to 19 March. If conditions are good enough for some of the world’s best skiers and snowboarders…

Longer Days, Later Lifts, and Sunnier Terraces

Unlike the shorter, colder days of deep winter, spring in Whistler offers long, glorious, warm afternoons.

You can ski comfortably from first to last lift, which from 21 February is a generous 7.5 hours. The lifts start spinning at 8:30am and don’t finish until 4pm, perfect for long on-mountain lunches in the sunshine.

While the mountain stays cold enough to keep the snow in great condition, things heat up down at the base as Whistler Village welcomes the return of patio season. Shed the layers, swap your goggles for sunglasses, grab your drink of choice (I’m partial to one of the many locally brewed beers or a classic Caesar) and soak up the rays on a sun terrace.

Keep an eye on Whistler’s events for the best après each day:

  • Ski Safari favourites The Hairfarmers alternate between Merlin’s at Blackcomb and Dusty’s at Creekside most days
  • The Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC) hosts DJs most weekends at the Whistler Mountain base
  • Also at the Whistler Mountain base, the Longhorn Saloon can get lively and is about as close to European-style après in Canada as you can get (just take a look below)

If you really want to embrace the spring buzz, visit during the World Ski & Snowboard Festival (06 to 12 April), when the resort hosts snowsports competitions, international bands and DJs, exhibitions and more.

For the full list of events during your stay, see Whistler Blackcomb's events page

The other advantage of spring’s longer, warmer days is the opportunity to see and do more off the slopes. Slower-paced activities are a lot more fun when you’re not shivering in the cold, and with the sun setting later, it’s easier to fit more into the day without giving up ski time.

That extends to nearby Vancouver, which is well worth a couple of nights after your trip. We can’t guarantee good weather, but in 30 years of visiting, our team have only ever enjoyed blue skies in March and April. Perfect for exploring the city on foot or by bike! We can easily add a Vancouver stay to your Whistler ski holiday, just let us know when you enquire.

Lift pass prices

We typically recommend that you always book your lift pass before the season begins to take advantage of the great value Whistler Blackcomb Day Pass product, but this year the resort has introduced one of the best-priced in-season lift tickets in years.

For 10 nights, most Ski Safari customers choose an 8 or 9 day pass (depending on whether they want a day off to rest their legs or try an activity).

The pass price is based on when you start skiing, so as you can see below, you’re best off aiming for the ‘off-peak’ or ‘spring’ windows:

Lift ticket27 Feb to 29 Mar (Peak)30 Mar to 02 Apr (Off-Peak)03 to 05 Apr (Peak)06 to 19 Apr (Spring)
8 of 11 day adult ticket£985£863£985£789
9 of 12 day adult ticket£1,109£971£1,109£888

9 of 12 day child ticket (7-12)£557£486£557£447
Kids aged 0-6FreeFreeFreeFree

That works out at £99 to £123 per day for an adult, and costs between 25 and 35% less than booking your lift pass in resort at the ticket window.

We’ll always work to find you the best possible package price. Slight tweaks to your dates, flights and accommodation can have a huge impact on cost, and we can save you a lot of time trawling through hundreds of different options online. It’s what we do for our customers every day.
