Silver Star is a resort of character and one or two surprises. The predominantly intermediate and beginner terrain of the mountain's south face, where the village is located, is a great confidence booster. But it is deceiving - the back side of the mountain has a string of tricky blacks and double blacks falling from the top of the Powder Gulch Express worthy of a much bigger resort.
The village is a tight cluster of colourful buildings with a ski-through main street. But there is more going on than first meets the eye. The excellent Wine Cellar, for example, is tucked away underneath Putnam Station and there is a good selection of restaurants and shops as well as the excellent Bugaboos Bakery Cafe.
In addition to the on and off-piste action there are snowmobile tours through the backcountry, excellent cross-country skiing, tubing, skating and even a climbing wall. Children are well looked after at the Star Kids Centre. Silver Star has recently been acquired by Big White and the two now share a lift pass.
Young Children - Silver Star offers daycare for children from newborn to 6 years and as the resort facilities are all very close together, it is a good resort to go to with small children.
Snowmobiling - trips operate from the resort on special trails through the back country - a great afternoon or early evening activity.
The Knoll - Take an evening stroll around this attractive residential area with its large, colourful homes.
