3*+ Evergreen Lodge

This was our least favourite accommodation. The location wasn't ideal from our perspective (outside Vail Village and on the highway) and our first room was really not a good experience (highway outside, door lock didn't work and we were locked in for half an hour, no bedside tables). The check in process was very brusque and perfunctory, there was someone hanging around the front door outside who was clearly stoned or drunk which felt a bit weird. After the door lock incident, we were moved to another room which felt very different and much better. It was at the back of the hotel, had two bedside tables and was generally a much more pleasant environment. In the hotel's favour, we did find both restaurants to be very good and enjoyed eating there in the evening. The breakfast was very good as well. The outside staff helped us shovel the snow from around our car and were very pleasant.

We stayed Feb 2012 for 10 days in a Mountain view room. This has two queen beds. Rooms were clean and sufficiently large. Housekeeping each day. I admit that the hotel could be more modern, but it is clean, staff helpful and good value. Hotel bar can be good place to meet, pub food is fine and $3 pint of local beers. Breakfast was included in our rate and satisfactory - Juices, youghurts, fruit, toast, bagels, cereal, hot drinks and also hot buffet. There is a free locker for all ski gear in the lobby area. There is complimentary safety deposit boxes at reception for valuables. There is a heated outside pool and indoor hot tub and sauna. All fine. To amenities - it is a 5 minute walk to the Gondola/Lionshead area or essentially 2 minutes on the free bus to Lionshead and probably 3-4mins free bus in the opposite direction to Vail village. GOOD HOTEL - Would stay again for the price.
