Jackson lived up to expectations. This was an exciting place to ski with all the adventure associated with steep terrain, gladed skiing and powder. The mountain attracts serious skiers and everyone that we spoke to was a ski nut. Unlike Whistler, there were few Brits in evidence and this added to the feeling of being somewhere special. Us the Tram and the Gondola and you will maximise your time on Skis. I had one full day of skiing and only spent a total of 30 mins on any lift. We stayed at Teton Village and only found the energy to drive down to Jackson Hole Town on 2 evenings and most of the shops were closed or closing by the time I hit town. It is a 15 minute drive down into town. In summary, Jackson Hole is fantastic. (PS there is terrain suitable for beginners if any of your party are new to the sport).

Very glad we stayed at Teton Village - it's a lovely base with nice eating options and enough shops for a potter. Ate in Jackson a couple of times - loved Blue Lion (amazing rack of lamb); Wild Sage at the Rusty Parrot - fantastic restaurant; and also ate at the Amangani which was fantastic too. Snow wise - Jackson was pretty hard and a bit icy by the time we were there as they hadn't had snow for a few weeks. Still enjoyed some bits lots but can't really rave about the whole resort because of the snow. But really enjoyed being there esp because of back country, scenery/ location and heliskiing

If you like to push your skiing to the limit this is the resort for you. We were there in February 2007 after Presidents Day (17th) so it had quietened down a bit and it snowed every one of our 10-days providing 3 to 6 inches of daily fresh light powder that only north american resorts can provide (helps to make you like a resort). The lift system is well organised compared to Europe and people are polite (makes a change). The new Tram in 2009 will make it even better especially for the more adventurous. The pistes are good and offer a range of challenges. They are often not touched if it has snowed since their early evening prep leaving lovely powder to enjoy first thing. But the resort is really about the tree skiing in between and the back country. The some of the back country can be accessed without hiking but the best stuff does require some effort - but boy is it worth it - but get fit because you will want to keep climbing all day when you start. The resort is also famous for Corbits Couloir which is good but not for the faint hearted and be careful as it can be sketchy at its entrance even when there is fresh snow around. Two personal tips for people visiting the resort. Getting a guide is highly recommended. They will push you as hard as you want and you get a full day. You get up the mountain 30/45mins before the general public and will finish on time if not late. The one very good thing that they do that Europe should follow is making sure you can use your transceiver before taking you into the back-country - they will make you find theirs after they have skiied off and buried it. Something you can never practice enough. After that the skies the limit. Secondly, try the snow-mobiling. Fantastic fun and worth the money - use it as a mid-week break from the slopes. Can do a number of routes. Didn't try it but they offer a two day trip with an overnight stay away from town in a lodge which elongates you time on the machines and from stories heard the evenings are not quiet. The town is the best place to stay and the bus service is very good to and from the ski area. The restaurants and bars are good and there is often two or three evenings of live music at the various bars (a knowledge of country music would do you no harm). Totally awesome place, great people and great mountain. Forget standing in line for a lift if you don't visit on american national holidays. We were boarding down the hill and straight onto a lift or gondola. Shame tram is gone but they will have a new chair lift to take you right to the top. Go up and have a warming drink in Corbets cabin and look at the couloir. Get to the bottom after the last lift and go and have a meal or a few drinks in the Mangy Moose. Great bar and restaurant. Totally amazing place and the town is perfect. Stay in the town and travel to the village as there is much more to do in town at night.
