Grand Targhee Ski Holidays

Grand Targhee is one of the powder gems of the US and whilst only 1 hour from Jackson Hole, it is well worth a couple of nights stay to do some cat skiing. Also worth a stop on a Jackson Hole, Big Sky Ski Safari.

Grand Targhee is summed up by one word - powder! The resort receives over 40 ft of the stuff every year, and you are more likely to get powder here than almost anywhere else.

If you are staying in Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee is an absolute must! Even if it's only for a day. The ski resort is a hidden gem an hour's scenic drive from Jackson, on the other side of the Tetons.

It is not a big place with just 4 lifts accessing 2 mountains, but there are no lift lines and 2 express chairs for speedy access to the skiing. Peaked Mountain, the second of the two used to be the preserve of cat skiers, but now a lift gives access to 500 of the 1500 acres, only 180 of which are groomed, and it's the untouched stuff that people make the pilgrimage to Targhee for.

The attractive base of Grand Targhee is compact with a few lodges, The Branding Iron Grill and The Trap Bar. The latter provides great après with live acoustic music, serving fantastic local beers and Wydaho nachos (made from sliced potatoes!). This makes for a perfect end to your day, and you could also visit the complimentary Spa at Targhee.

What a hidden star. Loved this little resort, everything all together, uncrowded slopes similar to Jackson, bar the people. Great early night/afternoon entertainment at weekends in The Trap, but no late nights. Breakfasts expensive but advise shop in Driggs and take with you. Fridge and small freezer and microwave in rooms. Beer and wine in bars very reasonable. Friendly friendly resort but don’t tell everyone.

Really loved the mountain but very small (2 places to eat). Good for hardened riders focused on the snow (like us) but not ideal for families or Apres-ski. The potential off-piste is excellent but we missed the storm. Really cool vibe - felt most at home here. Would love to visit this for 3 days when there is a snowfall.

An excellent little resort, very well set up, very high quality restaurant.
