Known as the crossroads of the Alps, Andermatt sits just above the Gotthard Pass at the centre of Switzerland, on the famous Glacier Express route linking Zermatt and St Moritz. One of Switzerland’s oldest ski destinations, it has over the last few years seen unprecedented investment to create luxury hotels, apartments and improve the overall lift infrastructure by developing a faster link between Andermatt and Sedrun.

There are two distinct ski areas to tackle on your stay in Andermatt. Nätschen has more beginner and intermediate friendly terrain, with plenty of blue and red runs. It also gets the best of the sunshine! The modern Gütsch Express Gondola whisks skiers and boarders from the Andermatt station at the centre of the village up to the 2,344 m peak. Further chairlifts were added to connect Nätschen to the nearby town Sedrun opening up the ski area to 120 km. Sedrun’s slopes are extensive and popular with intermediate skiers.

The towering Gemsstock is famed for its 3,000 m peak and has become a mecca for free-riders, with fantastic descents and ski touring possible. The mountain is accessed by a cable car from the edge of the resort and opens up a 1,500 m vertical descent.

The quaint village with its cobbled streets is quiet in the evenings, with a handful of bars for a drink - but it’s certainly not a night-life mecca. Though with all the developments, there are sure to be some new offerings popping up on the culinary and bar scene in coming years.

"With the iconic Gemsstock mountain and an unspoiled cobbled village, this is a resort for every ski bucket list. New ski lifts and improved connectivity between Nätschen and Sedrun have been a game-changer for this classic resort."
