No snow so we had to travel to Riksgransen but it was still excellent nonetheless.

Quiet and relaxing with just enough easy skiing to pass the time and enjoy the outdoors and views. Away from it all simple holiday village. Probably more geared up for summer camps than a serious winter sports centre. A good, well run hotel and small general store and ski shop. Ideal for casual skiing on quiet slopes, no queues anywhere. Impressive views and Northern Lights viewing hut above hotel.

Don't be put off by the exterior of the Hotel Fjallet - inside it is warm and welcoming with the permanent log fire burning in the lounge. The staff are lovely and the food is of a very high standard. While the rooms are possibly a little spartan they are clean and of an acceptable size. The ski run is directly outside the hotel and a button lift takes you to the rest of the slopes, which although not huge still gives some excellent skiing. Don't miss the opportunity of taking a dog sled ride across the frozen lake with Michael (from Fort William, Scotland) and Marie (Grenoble, France) who let us harness their dogs and explain about their charges. We took the opportunity to walk up to the hut, which is about 500 metres from the hotel to view the Northern Lights rather than spend a large amount of money going to the Aurora sky station. This is a great place for a three or four day stay and we would certainly come back again.

We stayed here over Feb half term which luckily was the week BEFORE the Swedish 'sport week''. The slopes were empty and the T- bars, although cold and quite long, quick to access. The staff were very friendly, and it had great ski -in /ski out. Good ski hire equipment. It is a very small ski area. I suggest buying your ski pass out there when you decide how many days you actually want to ski, as the snowmobiling etc looks great. You can hire thick suits and boots to stay out all night watching for the Northern Lights and they also have a little hut with a heater up by the viewing area - which was better than the Sky Station I thought. An enjoyable mini break.
