Our self-catered mountain-view apartment at Skistar Lodge was ideal for our family of 4, with easy access to the main slopes via a magic carpet and connecting T-bar. Our suite was spacious and comfortable, with 2 bedrooms and a large open living area with kitchen. A washing machine in the room would have been great, however, the shared facilities (booked and paid for via reception) were fine. Food and drinks were expensive, however expected given the location. Unfortunately, the food at the buffet restaurant was poor, especially considering the price (we went once for dinner and would not recommend it), however also the most economical family option within the hotel. The local bus stops right outside the hotel and can be used to reach the slopes, nearby shops and other areas. We used this on the first day to reach ski school for the kids, until we had our bearings and knew how to get there via lifts and skiing instead. Dedicated ski lockers are provided with the room, can fit 4 sets of skis but only 2 pairs of boots (possibly more at a push), are really convenient and accessed using your room key via doors that automatically open (really helpful with a hands full of ski gear). The onsite ski rental makes that step far easier for those needing to use it, and ski passes can be collected via numerous self-service kiosks in the hotel. All in all, a comfortable experience with all major needs met locally within the hotel, where self-catering is recommended.

Hotel was wonderful - beautiful cosy, Scandi decor, surrounded by snow laden trees. Room very clean and comfortable beds - really hot/powerful showers, perfect for the end of a day outside. Buffet breakfast and dinner had a great range - really busy on the first night (as lots arrive at similar time) but other days weren't at all hectic. Staff really helpful, perfect English. Spa also wonderful - pool/saunas/hot tubs - all super clean and kids allowed to use all (at certain times) - ice bucket was a favourite of theirs. Could walk 15m or so to the magic carpet to get down to a t-bar or ski straight down to a button lift - with little kids going to ski school, if they can't manage that yet, there is a bus from outside the front door to the village 5 mins or so away (and then a few mins walk up to the slopes). Overall wonderful - will be coming back.

The Lodge was brilliant, our accommodation was spacious, we had a two bedroom apartment and an interconnecting double room to accomodate our group of six. The kitchen facilities were perfect, although there is no real access to a grocery store which would be disappointing if one did not have the half board package. The rooms were clean and modern. Access to the swimming pool had to be booked and incurred an additional charge. We were lucky to be able to secure a few slots for the kids throughout the week to get a swim. The sauna and hot tubs in the facility were really lovely, a great way to relax after a busy morning on the slopes. I was talking to other guests who were not able to get booked in though which would have been disappointing. The breakfast and evening food was really lovely, we enjoyed all our meals. There were some activities put on for the kids like yoga and a disco, but it wasn't something that our kids participated in. Generally we found that our kids were pretty exhausted after their time on the slopes and in the pool so didn't really need further entertainment. There is a small kids room that had some soft play toys and a games room that the kids sometimes used in the evenings. The bars on site were quiet, well stocked and nothing was a problem for the staff. In general, we had a fantastic first family ski trip, we loved the family friendly feel of the Ski Star Lodge and would definitely return.
