Our second visit to Hemsedal and loved it even more than the first time! Everything is so conveniently located in SkiStar Lodge - ski rental, supermarket, excellent ski shop and terrific couple of restaurants. The new high speed chair from the base means no need to get a button lift unless you really want to, and the snow conditions were excellent for end of season. Lots of friendly helpful staff throughout the resort, excellent on mountain food.

Stayed in chalet just outside SkiStar Alpine Lodge in a self contained chalet. Compact resort. Everything is accessible and in one location. Excellent for beginners with adjacent ski schools and a selection of easy slopes and play areas. Private tutoring was particularly good. Slopes were not overcrowded even although it was Easter. This was our third family visit and it has been an excellent location for developing the children’s skills from nursery slopes to black runs. Good selection of catering and a well stocked supermarket on site. (Be prepared for high prices!). Hemsedal is a couple of miles away. Wine and spirits have to be bought in a specialist store in town. Free ski bus’s ran until 5.30 pm.

I honestly can’t praise this resort enough! Ski in/out, quieter slopes pre Christmas, busier afterwards. A long journey from Gatwick, but well worth it. We are already talking about going back. Ski Safari organised everything to run smoothly. The only thing I might change next time, is hiring equipment on site, as it’s a lot more convenient for pick up and returns. Minor, but would certainly be less hassle.

Easily accessible by train from Oslo. Lots of snow! Variety of runs to suit our family of all abilities. Not a lot of queuing for lifts despite it being peak season. Shame the blue run from the top of the mountain to Fyri wasn’t open. You can get back to the resort on a fairly flat slope but it can be hard work!
