We spent February half term at Beitostolen and had a brilliant time. We stayed at the Stolstunet apartments which are only 5 minutes walk to the slopes. Everyday we all went into ski school (2 adults and 2 kids aged 6 and 8). The instructors spoke perfect English and taught all of us how to ski. The kids loved their lessons and were skiing with confidence down blue and green runs on the third day (having never been on skis before). The runs are all quite short so we felt comfortable letting them ski slightly ahead of us as we knew that everything ends up at the same point. Despite it being February half term the resort was quite. The most we had to wait for a lift was a few minutes and we never felt like there were lots of other people skiing past us at top speed. The food is expensive (around 3 times the price of UK) but we took loads in our hold luggage and cooked in every night. The resort offers lots of additional activities but all the kids wanted to do was ski so we didn't end up doing anything else. As a first family ski resort it is perfect.

Was our 4th time visiting as a family. It's a small compact resort with lots of non ski activities on offer. We have tried Ice fishing, night skiing, airboarding, cross country skiing, the toboggan run and even had reindeer stew in a teepee under the stars. 1st few times we stayed self catering in cabins. Was cheaper than we expected as long as you shop smart! Last few times stayed at the Radisson (has a 25m indoor pool, decent gym, pool table, squash courts kids play room & nice open fire in the lobby!) Downhill Ski area is compact mostly greens & blues but well suited to families learning. We were happy to let the kids take off and explore after the second day on the slopes as nearly all of the runs end up at the same place. When you are ready for something steeper you can catch the free bus across to the black & red runs at Raudalen (same lift pass). You can walk everywhere in the central resort there are 2 supermarkets, cafe, chinese, pizza, few bars/restaurants. Would recommend self catering or try and get a good 1/2 board deal, this is norway and eating out is not cheap .The Radisson does a lunch bag for approx £7.50 and you can pack a full on lunch and snacks from the breakfast bar, worked out to be pretty good value. Highly recommend for young families on their first winter ski trip it feels safe, relaxed and village like. We've made loads of videos on youtube just search twoplustwocrew Beitostolen.
