I general we loved Niseko. The snow and people made the trip amazing. There's enough runs for everyone to enjoy and the views from the ski area are unbelievable. Niseko village was quiet on the slopes with no ques but the food/drink choices are limited in this area and we felt were expensive for the quality. We did visit Grand Hirafu which has a bigger choice of dining options and more going on however it was far busier on the slopes and I guess that's the trade off. Overall we had an amazing trip which included staying for 3 nights in Tokyo which I would highly recommend.

Niseko is one of the largest and most international of Japan's ski resorts. It is a well developed resort with a mixture of on piste and backcountry available. The lift infrastructure is mixed, with some new and efficient lifts and some very old lifts. Lift queues were up to 20 mins from the bottom when we were there although we heard they could be worse. The resort is one of the snowiest in the world with famous powder skiing in forests of Japanese birch trees. The scenery is amazing (when it is now snowing!) with great views of the neighbouring volcano Mt Yotei. Be careful - it is not chest deep powder every day. We had some days when it didn't snow and because of the number of people in the resort the powder gets tracked out very fast in resort. Would highly suggest to spend 2 days in Kiroro or Rusutsu if you are staying for > 5 days. Niseko itself is not a huge ski area and can be very busy. Avoid Chinese New Year and Japanese public holidays (e.g. the Emperor's birthday) when it can be very busy.
