It was very easy to travel around. Lots of snow. Friendly people.

I would go back, excellent snow, better than Europe in recent years, good value for money. Good selection of local Japanese restaurants.

Excellent range of resorts with good transport links from Hakuba. We enjoyed Happo-One, Hakuba 47 and Iwatake.
Perhaps a little less to do in Hakuba itself vs Whistler or major European resorts and the town itself is quite spread out, but the evening bus service is good and reasonably priced.
The resorts were large and lift queues non-existent or very short. Lifts themselves were dated vs European…

We all preferred Nozawa Onsen as a more traditional Japanese experience, but got to see the snow monkeys from here so overall well worth trying more than one resort. Hakuba is a lot more international, so felt less like Japan

Goryukan, a little old fashioned but handy enough for the village and the onsite onsen was lovely and the breakfast buffet was good

Much less infrastructure than Niseko, wasn't obvious how to get between the different ski areas there. We were unlucky with the snowfall. However we still really enjoyed it

Hakuba Hifumi - a wonderful Japanese hotel ran by a family who were quite delightful. The welcome was exceptional and we were looked after wonderfully
