We stayed at the Kabuki, which was well located in the Japanese quarter but within walking distance of Union Square and the Chinese area and downtown. Car parking was not included in our hotel stay and was expensive. It was the only hotel on our trip which charged - even Las Vegas was free! The hotel could do with some refurbishment - we had asked for a double bed but did not get one - there was no milk/sugar in the room.

San Francisco was the perfect start to our honeymoon. As we only really had a couple of days to get around the city we can highly recommend doing the hop-on, hop-off bus tour as it is the best way to see the whole city. If you want to do the Alcatraz Tour then it is worth booking before you leave as it is always booked up. We still managed to get on a tour but it meant a very early start to join the queue at 6.30am to guarantee a walk-on ticket for the 9.15am boat!! And finally, make sure you try one of the Seafood restaurants down on Fishermans Wharf - The Crab House comes highly recommended.

January 2012 - what a wonderful city, the Hotel Adagio is in a great location, with Diners at every turn for breakfast, they were so large we normally went through until evening! Definitely hire bikes and cycle from Fisherman's Wharf over Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito and catch the ferry back. We shopped until we dropped and I would recommend leaving few lbs of your luggage allowance for your return. Also buy the all day Cable Car ticket for $14, this allows you to travel on all the cable cars and street cars so you can save your legs and get everywhere. We had great weather and had to buy shorts!
