 This, along with its easy accessibility, just 25 minutes from Steamboat town, means Steamboat Powdercats has become one of the most sought-after snowcat experiences in North America.

Located just north of the Steamboat ski area across Fish Creek Canyon, Buffalo Pass is home to Colorado's deepest snowpack and is where Steamboat Powdercats has been operating snowcat skiing tours for the past 35 years.

A typical powder day provides you with a huge amount of skiing and snowboarding with guests experiencing up to 16 runs in a day, depending on group size and ability. With a three-course lunch included and a private photographer, your powdercat day could well be the best on-snow day of your life.

Itinerary

A typical day with Steamboat Powdercats.

15:00 - 17:30

Please check in the day prior so that they can review your dietary requirements, medical concerns, answer any questions and set up your gear.15:00 - 17:30 Bring your boots and leave them at the office to save time for breakfast in the morning. The office location has parking if you are driving. If you are not going to be in town the day prior, please call ahead.

07:30 - 07:45

Meet at Steamboat Powdercats office.

07:45 - 08:15

Basic continental breakfast of fruit, pastries, bagels, yoghurt, tea, coffe and juice. Find your boots on the boot dryer. Before departure, you'll be provided with a transceiver (insurance requires that you use those provided and not your own) and meet the others in your cat. Leave anything you need to at the office as you'll be able to collect it later.

08:15 - 08:45

Head to Buffalo Pass in the van, 20 to 30 minutes drive from the office.

08:45 - 09:00

Once you reach the snowcats all equipment all equipment will be transferred from the vans and information about the cat provided.

09:00 - 09:30

On the way up in the snowcat, one of your guides will take you through the safety protocols, how you ski and ride together as a group and introduce you to each other.

09:30 - 12:00

Ski and ride powder! Expect an average of between four and eight runs, depending on ability levels, snow conditions and terrain.

12:00 - 12:45

Enjoy a three-course hot lunch at the mid-mountain cabin, including soup, bread, a main and desert. Take the time to dry off, refill your water bottle and relax with your fellow cat-skiers. There is a propane burning toilet at the cabin in case you need another pit stop. For those guests participating in the Level 3 ability cat, you'll be further afield and won't return to the cabin. You'll be provided with a packed lunch in the snowcat instead.

12:45 - 15:30

Ski and ride more powder - typically between another four to eight runs.

16:00 - 16:30

All gear transferred back to the vans for the journey back to the office.

16:30 - 17:00

Post trip celebration at the office. They will showcase the photos taken during the trip before dropping you back at your lodging.
