“The largest ski area of Aspen's 4 mountains, Snowmass has superb intermediate terrain. With much of the accommodation ski-in ski-out this is a great family destination”

Why Snowmass?

Ski in, ski out, perfect for families, and offering a huge amount of terrain, Snowmass is easily a contender for one of the best ski resorts in Colorado. The mountain is the largest of the four on the Aspen lift pass and offers a relaxed and friendly alternative to Aspen’s glitz and glam.  It also has some excellent value accommodation options.

The Skiing

Snowmass is known for having the biggest vertical in the US (4,406 ft – start training now!). It also boasts over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain and that’s before you even consider the other three mountains on the same lift pass. There truly is plenty to please every type of skier or snowboarder - mellow beginner slopes, wide cruisey groomers, fun-filled glades, knee-destroying moguls and some seriously scary steeps plus three terrain parks and two pipes. The slopes are also kept in pristine condition. Flyers are handed out every morning updating skiers on the recently groomed slopes and the scenery is spectacular with panoramic views of the surrounding high desert.  Please click here to see the Snowmass trail map.

Off the Slopes

The village at the base of Snowmass mountain is purpose built so whilst not as attractive as nearby Aspen town, everything is easily accessible and designed with convenience in mind. There some great bars and restaurants although nightlife here is relatively low-key.  It is also home to one of the best childcare centers of any of the ski resorts in North America; the brand new Treehouse. Therefore for families with young children, Snowmass is the ideal choice. Aspen town is only 20 minutes away on the shuttle for a larger range of shops, places to eat and drink and things to do.

Accommodation

One of Snowmass’s big selling points is that the majority of the accommodation is ski in/out. There are some excellent value hotels such as the Wildwood, high quality condos from studios to four bedroom townhomes and luxury hotels to rival any of the big hitters in the likes of Aspen or Vail. The trick is to book early and make the most of the offers.

More Skiing?

If the four mountains of Snowmass and Aspen aren’t enough for you why not look at combining them with Vail or Breckenridge on one of our Colorado Ski Safaris. Alternatively how about experiencing some more of the best of the Old West style ski resorts such as Telluride or Crested Butte in our Classic Colorado Safari. Or for something completely unique, add on a stopover in Iceland and maybe see the Northern Lights. For more details please click here.
