With 300 days of sunshine and up to 500 inches of snow annually, the Lake Tahoe and Mammoth ski areas are the perfect ski resorts. Home to all the early Warren Miller ski movies and with Glen Plake the resort ambassador at Heavenly, the region offers some of the most extreme skiing in North America – when it snows here it only snows in feet!
Like most of the other US resorts, you pick a resort base in either South or North Lake Tahoe and explore the other 7 resorts on the area pass, see the Lake Tahoe Area Map.
South Lake Tahoe at the base of Heavenly Ski Resort
offers some of the best value accommodation in North America, and with the resort's huge area of intermediate terrain, it's a great favourite with groups and families
Squaw Valley
offers a higher standard of accommodation in a ski-in ski-out location, and is therefore a more expensive option than Heavenly. Although renowned as being the home of extreme skiing, it is also a superb option for families with a great beginner area and varied intermediate groomers.
Mammoth
is a little more difficult to get to than most other US resorts, but it is well worth it! A superb snow record, world renowned terrain parks, some of the best terrain in the US and good quality ski in/out accommodation means it's a great option for all groups.
