Why Galtür?

High up in the Paznaun valley in the Silvretta mountains and surrounded by numerous 3000m peaks, the small, pretty and traditional village of Galtür has been welcoming guests for over 120 years. At 1600m, Galtür and its ski area are snow sure with a long season from early December to mid April.

Here it is all about quality rather than quantity. The ski area may be small with 40km of pistes however they are all perfectly formed. Pistes reach up to 2295m and the Alpkogel eight-man gondola outside the Hotel Almhof makes access very easy and also very quick. Queues are not the norm here.

Galtür is excellent for beginners, early intermediates and families, plus Ischgl with its 238km for good intermediates and advanced skiers is only 15 minutes down the road and easily reached with the frequent free ski bus. Many of Galtür’s runs are blue and red but there are also a small number of more difficult red and black runs and off piste options. Galtür's ski area is in Wirl, 1.5km away, where our Hotel Wirler Hof and Hotel Almhof are located with lifts outside their front doors. Those wanting the village atmosphere should look at the Hotel Fluchthorn, centrally located in the village of Galtür and with a handy ski bus stop right outside.

This resort is particularly family friendly with two dedicated children's ski school areas, ski lessons starting at three years and a non-ski kindergarten from two years. Plus there are plenty of savings to be had, with children under 7 years skiing free when accompanied by parents and specially reduced family ski passes (saving 20%).

Ischgl is larger, more built up and noisier than Galtür. Its heavily invested, modern and fast lift system connects you to over 238km of pistes plus amazing off piste. Some of the runs even drop down into duty free Samnaun in Switzerland so don’t forget your passport! The après ski in Galtür is quiet and laid-back whilst in Ischgl you have to see it to believe it – make sure you have some energy left after all those kilometres!
