Returned on Monday 6th April 2009 from our first (and certainly not the last) trip to Whistler. We loved it for the most amazing snow (it snowed most nights and during several of the 9 days we were there); for the endless variety of runs that mean you are still discovering new areas after 9 days skiing; for the kind and helpful lift operators who will smile and say hello, put your skis on the gondola or slow the chair for a small child to get on (instead of yelling impatiently in French at said small child as we've found in certain other countries closer to home); for the friendly laid-back atmosphere where the skiing matters much more than how much your outfit/manicure cost; for the car-free, cosy village setting with all the facilities you could ever need (although it was a longish - well 10 mins - walk to find an ATM that worked with our visa card but at least it was a free one); for the comfort and convenience of lockers right beside the lifts; for the patience of the ski rental staff when I returned my boots for the fourth time before finding ones I could live with; for the wonderful seafood that abounds in west coast Canada, as well as the local, organic and sustainable foods that offer an alternative eating experience to the usual burger/ribs/pizza fare (which are also plentiful); for the clean and comfortable hotel and the manager's "happy hour" where he hands you a FREE beer/glass of wine and an amuse bouche as you sink into an armchair at the end of a long day on the slopes, before retiring to the outdoor hot tub (and it really is hot enough to soothe away any aches and pains) to decide whether to eat dinner in or out. Oh and for the brilliant Ziptrek Ecotours that gave us an afternoon of zip-riding thrills over the Fitzsimmons Creek which runs in the valley between Whistle and Blackcomb mountains, whilst teaching us about some of the ancient alpine forests that we'd been skiing around. The Pan Pacific Village Centre is a very nice place to stay - clean and modern and comfortable with good kitchen facilities if you don't want to eat out for every meal (2 good supermarkets nearby). You can also order takeaways from the local restaurants or from the hotel room service menu. Buffet breakfast in the hotel dining room is included and is worth having. Laundry room was useful, easily available, quick (30 min wash cycle plus 45 min drying time)and very cheap so you can travel light and do a wash whilst having a beer in the bar. The bedrooms are small if you are used to USA ski apartments but generous if you've been to Europe. There were no drawers in the second bedroom and no shower gel in the bathrooms (but you can use the shampoo I suppose). Second bathroom was not en suite which is a slight nuisance if you aren't sharing with intimates. But that's as picky as I can be really. Certainly nothing but praise for the helpfulness of the staff and the very engaged and visible management. The walk to the locker room in the other Pan Pacific wasn't an issue. The lockers were too small for 4 people's kit but the ski valets stored anything that wouldn't fit and they were always around (they unlock the lockers too, as most people struggled with the combination locks). Have been spoiled with boot warmers in the past and still miss that facility (especially when my boots were wet inside one morning from snow melted off my elder son's snowboard!), but that's just me! Overall a great hit with the whole family and we'd all highly recommend Whistler as a resort. We'd also recommend the Pan Pacific Village Centre for anyone looking for a good quality and good value suites hotel in Whistler
