The Top 10 Customer Photos from 2019/20

Find out who won our 2019/20 customer photo competition as we count down the top 10 entries, decided by public vote.

After another fantastic winter of 'Ski Safari moments', it was a tough job narrowing down the entries to our favourite 10 photos. So tough that we decided to let our customers vote for their favourite as working from home meant we couldn't follow our normal judging process.

The votes are in, so without further ado, here are our top 10 customer photos from winter 2019/20...

10. 📷: Charlie Jones

📌: Geilo, Norway

Charlie Jones - Geilo, Tromso
Clear skies, quiet slopes, a magical frozen landscape. Charlie's photo highlights just a few of the reasons why Geilo is so popular with families.

9. 📷: Martin Bull

📌: Grand Teton National Park, USA

Martin Bull - Backcountry Splitboarding in Grand Teton National Park
We don't tend to get many action shots submitted to our photo competitions - not only are they surprisingly hard to shoot well, but few skiers want to stop mid-run to capture their friends having all the fun! So we were particularly impressed by Martin's photo from a powder-filled splitboarding day in the Teton backcountry.

8. 📷: Michael MacDonald

📌: Niseko, Japan

Michael MacDonald - Niseko
Michael's photo of Niseko's Ace Pair Lift #3 shows off what Japan generally looks like during powder season. You may not get the views, but you do get the best powder in the world. We love Michael's eye for a well-framed shot and highly recommend checking out his Instagram at @ruanaich for more excellent outdoor photography.

7. 📷: Donald McIntyre

📌: Trysil, Norway

Donald McIntyre - Trysil
One of the many unique experiences of a ski holiday in Scandinavia is skiing at sunrise or sunset, and you'd have to be a real diehard skier not to stop for a selfie in the 'golden hour' - especially above the cloud line! Donald managed to capture the other side of the selfie in this family photo in Trysil at Christmas.

6. 📷: David Leigh

📌: Jackson Hole, USA

David Leigh - Jackson Hole
With clear skies over the Snake River Plain in the background and not another skier in sight, what better time to stop for a photo in Jackson Hole? That said, it looks like the snowboarder in David's photo is raising his arms to ask 'Why are we stopping? Let's get going!'

5. 📷: Robert Marks

📌: Åre, Sweden

Robert Marks - Åre
We liked how Robert framed the snowboarders bathed in dawn sunlight and the Åredalen spreading out below, capturing an atmospheric moment in Åre, Sweden.

4. 📷: David Bradley

📌: Fernie, Canada

David Bradley - Snowy Fernie
All of David's entries were big, panoramic scenic shots of the Rocky Mountains, but this one at Fernie was our clear favourite and could easily be one of the resort's own promotional photos. Plus, how good do the conditions look!

3. 📷: Will Ferguson-Smith 🥉

📌: Geilo, Norway

Will Ferguson-smith - Geilo
We felt that Will really captured the spirit of a 'Ski Safari moment' with this shot of his daughter meeting one of the hardworking husky team. A reminder that some of the most special moments happen off the slopes.

2. 📷: Dan Charlish 🥈

📌: Trysil, Norway

Dan Charlish - Trysil
If you haven't visited Scandinavia during winter, it's hard to describe how stunning the skies can be but Dan's photo does a wonderful job of showing off a unique sunset as his family unwind in the slopeside hot tubs at the Radisson Blu Mountain Resort in Trysil.

1. 📷: Steve Hogan 🥇

📌: Niseko, Japan

Steve Hogan - Niseko
It's not often that you get such clear skies in Niseko during January, and especially not when it has snowed overnight! Steve's photo captures an iconic moment for many who've visited Niseko, the 20 minute hike from King Lift #4 (you can see the lifts at the bottom left of the photo) to the summit, where you'll find the best views of Mt Yotei on a clear day. This shot is all about that on-top-of-the-world feeling that we know and love so much.

We asked Steve what inspired him to capture this moment:

"It’s a view from the top of Mt Niseko-Annupuri in Hokkaido Japan with volcano Mt Yotei in the distance, taken on 23 January.

It was my first ski trip to Japan and a totally different experience to anywhere else I have skied before.

On this particular day it was the first blue sky and fresh snow day for a while, so 100’s of skiers and boarders raced with their kit from the top of King Lift #4 (Pizza Box or Meat-Hook lift if you know it..) for the last kilometre to the summit to get to the fresh powder from the top.

It was my first venture beyond the resort boundary and to the top of the peak and the views were worth the hard work.

There were already lots of people at the top and the powder was rapidly being tracked-out. I had to capture the views of the resort below and with the iconic Mt Yotei in the background.

If you look closely you can see the trail of ‘ants’ making their way up.

I understand it’s a rare treat to see blue skies and sun when skiing in Japan, so we definitely got lucky with a mix of great powder and sunny weather."

Congratulations to Steve on his much-deserved win. Hopefully he'll have fun with his new GoPro HERO8 - perfect for even more photos next winter!

We'd love to hear from you
