Why Grand Targhee?
If you are staying in Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee is an absolute must! Even if it's only for a day. The ski resort is a hidden gem an hour's scenic drive from Jackson, on the other side of the Tetons.
Targhee is summed up by one word - powder! The resort receives over 40ft of the stuff every year, and you are more likely to get powder here than almost anywhere else.
It is not a big place with just 4 lifts accessing 2 mountains, but there are no lift lines and 2 express chairs for speedy access to the skiing. Peaked Mountain, the second of the two used to be the preserve of cat skiers, but now a lift gives access to 500 of the 1500 acres, only 180 of which are groomed, and it's the untouched stuff that people make the pilgrimage to Targhee for.
The attractive base of Grand Targhee is compact with a few lodges, The Branding Iron Grill and The Trap Bar. The latter provides great apres with live acoustic music, serving fantastic local beers and Wydaho nachos (made from sliced potatoes!). This makes for a perfect end to your day, and you could also visit the complimentary Spa at Targhee.
