Alyeska Ski Holidays

Alyeska is a long way to go from the UK but is definitely worth the effort. The resort is absolutely stunning when the sun comes out. It isn't the biggest resort but it has something for everyone, when the snow is good & it’s open there are some gnarly lines on North Face which can be accessed via several gates by where you get off the tram or if they are open several chutes at the top of the Glacier Bowl Express, you can also do High Traverse & choose where you want to drop into a big open bowl. When things start to get tracked out the resort is great fun for cruising with loads of natural half pipes & side hits & big wide empty pistes for carving. There were also several mellow areas for learners to practice & have lessons. The day lodge is a good spot to stop for a mid morning session refuel & The Sitz is a great for lunch & Après or just having a couple of beers before going back out for Night Riding (Thurs-Sunday) which was the highlight of our trip. For such a small town we were amazed at how many good places there were to eat & drink. The Girdwood Picnic Club was fantastic for breakfast & lunch, you have plenty of time to catch the free shuttle bus & have breakfast & still be on first chair at 10:30am. The Double Musky has the biggest steaks I've ever seen & an amazing wine list, everything from $25 up to $3000 a bottle. Our favourite place to eat though was Jack Sprats, amazing food & great service & you can pretty much ride straight to the front door after night skiing before getting the free shuttle bus (runs every 40 minutes) back to the hotel

The resort has limited skiing but is set in the most stunning situation, and there are a lot of activities and things to do. Heli-Skiing in Alaska is incredible, as well as snowmobiling. The town is reachable by free bus service and offers lots of variety.

Weather conditions were interesting when we arrived - rain down low and very flat light on the mountain but lots of snow (heavy snow). The weather continued being unsettled so the helis were on hold. In fact they had 10 days on not being able to fly. However, with everything crossed and prayers to the good snow and fair weather gods a window started to open on Monday and the girls on the Chugach desk in the hotel were great and made sure Stuart and I got up on Tuesday (our last day). What can I say... it’s not often I’m speechless!! Jaw dropping. It was like learning to ski all over again, the snow was unbelievable and the views... I could go on and on, but you’ve been there you know just what I mean. It is going to be so difficult to convey to people just how amazing the experience was. OMG we’ve been heli-skiing/snowboarding in Alaska!! The Chugach staff are great, they really know their stuff.

We had a great time on our trip to Alyeska, a small resort with the most insane in-bounds terrain I've ever seen. There are some faces that were accessible that would test even the most advanced skiers. We had one great powder day on our first day, plenty of sunny days, a great non-ski experience kayaking at Seward. The highlight of our trip was a day riding with the Chugach Powder Guides. Without a doubt the best day's skiing of my life. Alaska is truly a unique experience, not just a ski holiday, it really is a trip of a lifetime.

I booked my trip through Andy who was incredibly helpful in making sure it was tailor made to my budget and preferences. We opted to spend a couple of days riding in the resort, one day heli, and one day excursion to Seward to go sea-kayaking. Our first day in the resort was immense, 18 inches of fresh pow to keep us entertained for hours. While the weather was a bit mixed overall we went out later that week with CPG who provided pretty much the best snowboarding experience I've ever had. Lap after lap of virgin lines with incredible scenery and smiles all round. Our guide Paul was superb and really made the experience. The sea-kayaking was also incredible, our guide took us to a wonderful spot for lunch, showed us the waterfall and told us all about the local geology and wildlife. With a day in Seattle on the way back to break up the journey it was a fantastic trip that will be hard to top. Roll on 2016..

Very well organised itinerary, hit every connection and flight with time to spare. Excellent price for quality of accommodation and flight package. Rather poor year for snow in both Whistler and Alyeska, can imagine Alyeska resort would be have some excellent steeps in a normal year. North face would provide a real introduction to off piste steeps for a comfortable intermediate. You will never have a bad meal in Whistler and at the Hotel Alyeska food was just as good if not better, they have a wine list to die for
