Edmonton - Best for Jasper National Park resorts: Air North flies on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

"Whitehorse in the Yukon is undoubtedly one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights. Not the easiest place to get to but the journey is definitely worth it to experience the untamed wilderness of the Yukon."

Itinerary

Based in the Yukon’s capital city of Whitehorse, you’ll venture into the wilds each evening and watch for the Northern Lights. From the warmth of a heated cabin, your fingers wrapped around a mug of hot chocolate, you’ll see a green sheen ripple overhead before it bursts into a display of colours that dance across the sky. When you’re not viewing the lights, you can look forward to long lie-ins and a choice of activities that includes sightseeing, ice-fishing and dog-sledding. 2, 3 or 4 Night Northern Lights Package Choose a two, three or four night stay, starting your tour on any day between the 1st September and 15th April. Minimum of two people required.

Day 1 - Arrival and first sighting

Meet the Northern Tales team at the airport and transfer to your hotel in downtown Whitehorse. Staying next to the Yukon River, you’re within walking distance of restaurants, banks and stores. Get kitted out with winter clothing then explore the town and have dinner. Depart at 9.30pm to a cabin or wall tent, and watch for the Northern Lights with hot drinks and snacks. Return to your hotel at around 1.30am.

Day 2

Enjoy a lie-in before exploring the city on a tour of local attractions that include Main Street, the Log Skyscraper, Schwatka Lake and the Log Church. Join an optional afternoon optional tour, or spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Leave at 9.30pm for your second viewing of the Northern Lights. Stay warm in a cabin or tell stories around a roaring fire as you wait for the display, returning at around 1.30pm.

Day 3 (and Day 4)

Spend the morning at your leisure, with an optional afternoon sightseeing tour. Experience your last Northern Lights outing(s) at the same time of 9.30pm. Every experience of the lights is different, depending on the cloud cover, geomagnetic activity and other factors. We’ll leave it for you to decide which of your three or four evenings was the most magnificent.

Final day

Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Calgary, Vancouver or Edmonton.
