Mammoth Ski Holidays

This legendary winter resort has masses of terrain with huge snowfalls, as well as great cruising runs and some pretty scary stuff too. It’s a little further away but well worth the effort.

With views over the high desert, Mammoth is one of North America's largest ski hills, with an enviably long season and lots of snow.

Here in the Sierra Nevada Mountains the ski season starts early (November) and finishes late (June). Sunny days are common on Mammoth ski holidays, and average snowfalls are more than 10 metres a year.

Mammoth’s terrain balances steep chutes and snowparks with beginner slopes and tree-lined cruisers. Also included in your pass, June Mountain is a shuttle ride away - our tip is to ski here when LA locals flock to Mammoth on the weekends.

Relaxing bars and restaurants are centred in The Village and Mammoth Lakes town. Non-ski activities include tube parks and snowmobiling and, for an unforgettable evening meal on the mountain, we definitely recommend the snowcat tour up to Parallax restaurant.

To discover more of the US, ask us about skiing Mammoth as part of our California Ski Safari. You could also include LA or Las Vegas as city add-ons by arriving and flying home from either airport.

Every holiday is tailor-made, just for you.

Snowboarding heaven, we spent 7 days in Mammoth which we found perfect for exploring the whole mountain plus a day in June, which is a gem of a place. Lots of off piste, especially on the back side, readily accessible back country if you are prepared to hike a little (the altitude made us think twice about too many hikes), a good variety of parks for those who want to hook a shifty or McTwist and some really friendly locals who will be only too pleased to point you in the right direction (pay a visit to Wave Rave, one of the best snowboarding shops I've ever been to) The lift system is a mix of fast chairs/gondola's with a few older style 2-4 man's and we experienced very few queues to bother us even though the weekend got fairly busy. The resort itself is modern, clean, and hosts a good variety of eateries and bars but don't expect to find European style après, tag on a trip to Vegas as we did if you are need of a few wild nights, and days!!

There is a lot to ski here and the resort is well managed. The town is quite straggly but there is a great bus service to get you around. There are a lot of bowls for advanced skiers and no queues when we were there in March. Advantage of this resort is that it is not close to any major towns - if there is a snowfall, you would have to fly in so you don't get day trippers.

The place is awesome, the skiing was awesome and the weather awesome - we will definitely go back YET again!!

Jade's Mammoth California Adventure

What a year to travel to the sunny state of California - over 10 metres of snowfall and 300 days of sun! Flying out to Los Angeles, I snowboarded at Mammoth Mountain and Heavenly before finishing my trip in San Francisco (via the outlet malls of course). Travelling to California is becoming much...

Super spring snow - Over 10 metres in North America

18th March 2016 - Craig Charley

Blue skies, empty slopes, deep powder; perfect spring skiing conditions. After a week of snowstorms dumping up to 150cm in places, many North American resorts are above the 10 metre line for the season, setting the scene for an epic end of season. Words alone don't do it justice, here are the best...
