Crans‐Montana is one of the most well-known and stunning twin-town mountain resorts in Switzerland. There are three gondolas for accessing the mountains spread throughout the valley, connected by a free shuttle bus which makes it easier to explore the whole area wherever you stay.
Most of the slopes are geared towards intermediate skiers, but there are plenty of wide-open, uncrowded runs for beginners too. For advanced skiers, there are 10 testing itinerary runs, plenty of opportunities for off-piste and a thigh-burning 12km run down from the glacier at 3,000m.
Crans is the more sophisticated of the two towns, famously home to Sir Roger Moore’s home up to 2017. You can still find his image everywhere you go and the resort still appeals to a discerning clientele who want high-quality accommodation, long lunches and a bit of skiing.
One mile away, Montana attracts more families and the younger crowd, with more of an après and party scene. While still more laid back than many other European resorts, there are some lively bars and nightclubs to be experienced.
Due to its southern-facing slopes, Crans-Montana gets a lot of sunshine, perhaps the most in Switzerland. There's an abundance of non-ski activities on offer too, including firm Swiss favourites like horse-drawn sleigh rides, sledding and snowshoeing.
