Hemsedal is fantastic for off-piste lovers - whether you’re new to the experience or want to explore a rugged mountain area. Why not try ski touring while you’re there, to really get away from it all? If you’d prefer to stick to the pistes, there’s plenty for all abilities. Stay in a ski-in ski-out hotel to make the most of your ski time and enjoy the incredible vista.
As you drive through Flåm between the two resorts, why not stop and go on the famous fjord railway? One of Norway's most visited tourist attractions, the Flåm railway twists and turns 12.5 miles from the mountain station of Myrdal down to the valley floor through dramatic scenery and waterfalls. This is known as Norway’s Grand Canyon, rich in nature and with breathtaking views - all in all a must do trip!
Myrkdalen is only two hours’ drive from Hemsedal and offers a totally different landscape - the rolling hills are more reminiscent of North America than Hemsedal’s Alpine peaks.
Myrkdalen is one of the snowiest resorts in Norway, with regular snowfall that makes it a must-visit for powder hounds. It’s also home to Norway’s highest qualified ski school, if you fancy brushing up on your technique. The off-piste area is huge with plenty of variety, and the slopes themselves are wide and open so everyone feels comfortable no matter what their level. The skiing’s right outside the door of the hotel too, so it couldn’t be more convenient.
