Saas Fee and Zermatt, separated by a ridge of mountains almost all over 4,000 metres high, combined provide a heroic mountain backdrop with no less than 42 magnificent peaks.
Saas Fee and Zermatt are neighbouring resorts, sitting in their own valleys. Both villages are totally unique yet share a lot of the same features: awesome picturesque settings (Saas Fee is known as the Pearl of the Alps, whereas Zermatt’s main focal point is the iconic Matterhorn); 100% car-free; chocolate-box-style buildings; high quality accommodation; fantastic spas; and a reputation as gourmet meccas (16 restaurants in Zermatt are listed in the Michelin Guide - 2 of which have 2 stars - and Saas Fee has 21).
The difference between the skiing in each resort is more marked - Saas Fee’s sunny slopes are best suited for beginners and intermediates whereas in Zermatt - although beginner friendly - you’ll get the most out of the resort as an intermediate or advanced skier and you can also heli-ski or even head over into Cervinia for the day!
While you can't ski from Saas Fee to Zermatt (the mountains are just too big) it takes less than an hour to navigate around them.
This is a truly awe-inspiring trip from start to finish and can be done either way around.
