Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas! Everyone has to go to Las Vegas at least once as it has so much to offer - an abundance of shopping, star studded shows and of course gambling and the casinos. There is a huge choice of hotels along the strip to suit all budgets.

Summary

There is really nowhere quite like Las Vegas - its famous strip of bizarre hotels is truly amazing. Along The Strip you can see a giant Egyptian pyramid, a medieval castle, the New York City skyline, the Eiffel Tower, Venetian canals and a Roman temple. All are covered in neon lights which means that at night it is even more spectacular.

Although you will certainly want to try your luck at one of the many casinos, there are shows to watch, theme parks to visit, water parks, pools and spas to splash in, not to mention hundreds of restaurants to try.

Although Las Vegas is a destination in itself, it is also a good stopping off point between California and the Grand Canyon and National Parks of Arizona and Utah. The contrast between the man-made sights of Vegas and the natural splendour of The Grand Canyon could not be greater. We are able to organise day trips to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas.

Boy did I underestimate the attraction of this to my nephews (33 and 35). I had arranged kayaking from below the Hoover Dam for 12 miles for the first morning starting at 5.45. This was a superb experience and well done. Bedtime was 3.30 am the next morning! Blackjack was their speciality. We once again ate way too much. A trip to see Zumanity at 10 pm where Graeme was dragged on stage to be interviewed and be fawned on by near naked circus performers. Not an average night and another late finish for them, but not me. We walked for miles and took all sorts of transport as well. And so to the final day, with a late start for them, while I booked a helicopter tour of the nearest part of the Grand Canyon for 1.5 hours. What a holiday, or was it two holidays? Back home for rest. Many thanks for your thorough planning and advice.

Stayed at the Mandalay Bay The hotel. Had a suite, and it was fantastic. Brilliant location.
