Summary

Montréal is a good place to stop over before or after skiing at Tremblant, particularly as the distances to and from the airport and the resort are relatively small.

It is a culturally diverse and beautiful city – as well as being the second largest French speaking metropolis outside France, a huge range of nationalities have made the city their home. As a result there is an incredible variety of places to eat and it is the arguably the most vibrant city in Canada.

The historic Vieux-Montreal has some stunning buildings which contain restaurants, art galleries and smart shops. The downtown area is home to the famous Underground City, the vast network of climate-controlled passages which provide access to the Metro, offices, hotels, restaurants and a huge range of shops.

Every holiday is tailor-made, just for you.

Attractions

  • To get started we advise going to the tourist office on Rue Metcalfe, across the road from the Dorchester Square. It's just around the corner from the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. We recommend taking a city tour.
  • The Montréal museum pass is valid for 3 consecutive days and gives you entry into 30 museums and unlimited public transport - it costs $45 and is a great way to explore the city.
  • The food market at Atwater on Ave Atwater is a feast for the eyes - go and sample all the local produce...don't eat before you go!
  • Explore the interconnecting underground shopping malls. From the Fairmont Elizabeth, you can simply get an escalator down.
  • Rue St Catherine is the main overground shopping street, and worth a visit.
  • A visit to the Chinese and Latin quarters is recommended - they're great places to wander around, eat and browse.
  • The Basilique Notre Dame on Rue Notre Dame is well worth a visit - it's an impressive cathedral.
  • If you like sushi, a great restaurant to try is the Odaki - 3977 Boulevard St-Laurent - 514 282 1268 - good quality sushi at great prices.

Fairmont Queen Elizabeth - fantastic location.

We added a trip to Montreal and Toronto onto our skiing and both hotels were in great positions. As a first time skier I received excellent advice when booking and all transfers, bookings and collecting of equipment were quick and easy. The hire car was a big, white Jeep and the collection and drop off were done quickly and efficiently.

Cathedrals are definitely worth visiting. Old Montreal on a Saturday in Feb is not worth visiting, too many things are closed.
