It may be the first week of October, but we're seeing another year of very early snow in North America - plus some good signs in Scandinavia too.

A few resorts received an early flurry towards the end of September but the real snowfall started this week, including up to 70cm in Calgary on the state's snowiest day in three decades. There's even more in the forecast but falling temperatures have also allowed resorts to fire up the snow guns to give mother nature a helping hand in preparing for opening days over the next few months.

Here's a selection of our favourite early snow photos from our programme to get you excited for the season ahead - not long to wait now!

One of the handful of non-skiers before joining Ski Safari, I've now skied in North America, Europe and Asia and can't imagine a winter without at least one ski trip!
