Not content with one of the best starts to a season in recent years (four metres of snow and counting), Whistler Blackcomb has just announced a new gondola and two new chairlifts for 2018/19.

A CAD$66 million investment will fund a new Blackcomb gondola up to Rendezvous Lodge, a 6-person chair replacing Emerald Express in the Family Ski Zone on Whistler Mountain and a 4-person high-speed lift replacing Catskinner on Blackcomb Mountain.

The new 10-person gondola will replace the Wizard and Solar chairlifts which are currently used to get up Blackcomb Mountain, matching the Whistler Village Gondola by taking skiers from the base to the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. It will be the first three-gondola connection in the world and will represent a 47% capacity increase, moving 4,000 people per hour.

The Family Ski Zone's Emerald Express 4-person lift will be replaced with a new 6-person high-speed lift, increasing uphill capacity by 29%. The area is great for taking the first runs on intermediate terrain.

Last but not least, the Catskinner 3-person lift is getting an upgrade to a 4-person high-speed lift, increase uphill capacity by 56% which means less time on the lift and more time in the terrain parks which it serves.
