Six Snow-sure European Ski Resorts

Craig Charley - Headshot

The most important factor for skiers when choosing a resort is guaranteed snow (according to the latest Ski Club of Great Britain research), and it's one of our top considerations when tailoring our ski holidays.

When looking for snow-sure resorts, altitude and latitude play a big part. All of our Swiss resorts have skiing over 3,000m, while our Scandinavian resorts are all at least 60° north. We offer the world's most northerly ski resort and Europe's highest (can you guess which they are?), but you don't necessarily need to go to these extremes in search of good snow.

High Latitude Resorts

Åre, Sweden - 63° North

With more than 1,000 acres of terrain, Åre is a world-class resort. Children under eight ski for free and the tree-lined slopes are uncrowded, even during peak weeks. The season extends comfortably to mid-April so you can get your Easter fix despite the late holiday this year. Stay at Copperhill Mountain Lodge for 5* luxury without the 5* price tag.

Geilo, Norway - 60° North

For beginners and families, the conditions in Geilo are perfect. The two ski areas of Geilo and Geilolia are linked by a shuttle and boast unintimidating slopes, helpful lift attendants and an award winning ski school. The 4*+ Vestlia Resort is a fantastic option for families and couples alike - along with a luxurious adults-only spa, there’s a separate family pool and kids’ soft play area.

Riksgränsen, Sweden - 68° North

Riksgränsen, the world's northernmost ski resort, is a heli-skier's heaven. We particularly like the endless off-piste, the spectacular Northern Lights and the unique midnight sun. Stay at the 3*+ Riksgränsen Hotel, overlooking the Vassijaure frozen lake, with indoor and outdoor hot tubs to help you relax after a day out on the slopes.

High Altitude Resorts

Laax, Switzerland - 3,018m

With reliable snow all season, much of the terrain in Laax sits above 2,000 metres. Snow-sure pistes zigzag above the villages of Laax, Flims and Falera, with easy access across the whole 235km. Save £50pp on any full package including flights, accommodation, transfers and lift passes. Stay at the 4*+ Peaks Place, opened in December 2015 and featuring modern 1-3 bed apartments and a luxury spa.

St Moritz, Switzerland - 3,300m

St Moritz boasts the title of the sunniest resort in Switzerland. The famous Corviglia slopes are south-facing and home to numerous comfy sun loungers, whereas Corvatsch is our favourite mountain, with north-facing slopes ensuring excellent conditions well through spring. The choice is yours! The ski-in ski-out 4*+ Nira Alpina is connected to the Corvatsch cable car station via a private walkway.

Zermatt, Switzerland - 3,899m

Surrounded by 4,000-metre peaks, Zermatt's snow-sure slopes sweep beneath the glacier and the iconic Matterhorn, giving breathtaking views as you carve above the tree line. The 3* Hotel Derby is in a fantastic position right in the centre of Zermatt - we stayed here in March and loved it!
