From Ski Extras guru to our very own Ski Safari Dalai Lama, Matt Pavitt this week celebrated a decade of headaches trying to keep us motley crew on track in the office. As a thank you for his ten years’ service and dedication, The Boss in Bali sent him a rather dashing blue Berghaus jacket to sport at home and on the mountain. Very nice too! We stole five minutes with the man of the moment to find out about his highs and lows steering the helm of the Good Ship Ski Safari...
When you first joined, did you think you’d be celebrating ten years a decade later?
I had no idea! I originally joined on a part time, temporary basis but was soon persuaded to stay. Ten years on and the company and my job have changed enormously, but what I love is that at a fundamental level the business has stayed the same - it’s run by skiers, for skiers and we all share the same passion for the slopes.
Best mountain moment?
Has to be skiing with my family in Whistler a few years ago, the first time the kids had skied. Seeing them enjoy a sport which has been such a big part of my life was fantastic and they’re now all hooked.
Probably Whistler - it’s hard to beat and I have some fantastic memories of skiing there with my family and with colleagues. But deep down I’m an Italophile after spending seven winters working in the Dolomites and I’m still a fan of their laid-back approach to skiing!
Rumour has it you spend more time in a deck chair on the ski beach than on the slopes. Do you have anything to say in your defence?
Recent surveys have shown that skiers are becoming more interested in the whole experience of being in the mountains, they’re not just there for the skiing. I’m just staying in touch with what our customers want!
You put the office to shame with your domestic capabilities. In fact, you can often be found re-loading the dishwasher for optimum cleaning. Any tips for a happy, clean office?
