Expert Opinion

"An exciting new ski resort in the making.... The skiing is tremendous and the area is renowned for its huge snow fall. It also has the longest vertical descent in North America - the legs will burn!!!! I loved this mountain and it is one of my top 5 resorts......"

Every year, more than 8,000 helicopter and snowcat skiers from around the world flock to Revelstoke Mountain Resort, British Columbia, attracted by its perfect powder and varied alpine terrain. Soon there will be another way to the top. Upon completion of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, over 20 lifts and more than 100 ski and snowboard runs will be created, transforming the area into a world-class ski resort.  The $1-billion, four-season resort will be completed over 15 years and will include over 5,000 new housing units (1,500 resort condominiums, 2,000 hotel suites, 850 townhomes and 550 single-family lots), as well as more than 500,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, plus a signature golf course.

The 2007/08 ski season opened with 4,735 vertical feet; a new Leitner-Poma high-speed quad lift and eight-passenger gondola; a renovated and expanded day lodge with restaurant, deck, retail, and rentals; and 27 gladed and groomed ski trails, open bowls, and steep chutes.  Once additional gondolas and chairlifts are completed in the winter of 2008/09, Revelstoke Mountain Resort will also boast North America’s longest vertical descent (and the fourth-longest in the world): 6,000 feet of lift-serviced vertical.  The ski resort has also purchased and now operates 'Selkirk Tangiers Helicopter Skiing' and 'CAT Powder Skiing' making the resort a one-stop destination for lift, snowcat, and helicopter skiing.

Selkirk Tangiers Helicopter Skiing is located in the heart of the world’s best heli-skiing. Two impressive mountain ranges, the Selkirks and the Monashees, provide unmatched terrain. Unique snow conditions and mild climate provide great powder December through April.   Selkirk Tangiers boasts over 500,000 acres of terrain with over 200 established runs.

2007 welcomed the launch of Revelstoke Cat Skiing, offering access to untracked terrain and world-renowned powder skiing in the legendary Selkirks.  Snowcats will take skiers and boarders to all levels of terrain, from wide-open bowls, to steep chutes and cornices.

Revelstoke Mountain resort is in its infancy and over the next few years major developments will take place. At present, you have to stay in the the town of Revelstoke as there is no accommodation at the base of the mountain. Revelstoke is a typical Canadian mountain town with a good selection of bars, restaurants and a good selection of accommodation.

Best as part of a Rockies Ski Safari

The skiing at Revelstoke is challenging and at present is good for intermediates to experts - there is not much for beginners and low intermediates. You could happily spend several days skiing the challenging terrain of Revelstoke however, until more development happens, you would not really choose to spend your whole holiday here (although you could as the terrain and snow are so good).

There are some exciting Rockies Ski Safaris that can be put together incorporating Revelstoke Mountain Resort - for serious skiers the three resorts to combine that spring to mind are Kicking Horse, Red Mountain Resort and Fernie.  Please take a look at our Rockies Loop Safari for ideas or call Rupert on 01273 224 060 to discuss the options.
