Why Jay Peak?
No longer a locals' secret, following $130m of investment Jay Peak has now firmly established itself as a destination resort and was recently voted #1 Ski Resort on the East Coast by Skier Magazine.
It’s all about the snow! With 375” of snowfall annually it receives almost twice as much as many other East Coast resorts and is more on par with resorts in Colorado. Dripping in accolades for its famous tree skiing and backcountry terrain, Jay Peak is clearly a destination capable of satisfying every powder fiend. With ridge runs like the 'Uermonter' snaking down 2,153 vertical ft from the top of the Jay Peak gondola it is still a fantastic option for intermediates. Kids and beginners will also love the easy access from the Tram House Lodge to the covered magic carpet lift.
The resort is a superb family option with ski-in ski-out accommodation, a great ski school and loads of off-the-slope activities. The Ice House Arena is a large indoor ice-rink offering skating, curling and ice hockey and, if you don't know how to do these sports, lessons to teach you how! The huge Pump House Waterpark (scheduled to open in December 2011), features the original AquaLoop ride, multiple pools, hot-tubs and other water slides - this is unique to any North American ski resort.
After a great day in the glades you'll need a Vermont Gold Maple Martini from the Tower Bar in the Tram House Lodge. Tower Bar draws its name from the chairlift towers and sheave wheels from the Green Mountain Chair that were used to fabricate the seating fixtures. During the week it is the focal point for apres action and the weekend line-up also includes live music. Alice’s Table is located next door to the Tower Bar where excellent home-cooked food is served.
The new Hotel Jay (opening in February 2012) will have 170 rooms and add to the amenities at the resort base with new retail shops, and a bar and restaurant.
We highly recommend combining Jay with Stowe on a twin-centre holiday - the 2 resorts complement each other extremely well and are only 1 ½ hrs drive away.
