Expert Opinion Our Expert
Rupert Hatfield

"Whitefish in Montana is an excellent ski resort with some great long runs and a good snow record. A little harder to get to but definitely worth the extra time for that real 'get away from it all' feeling and un-crowded slopes."

Why Whitefish?

Whitefish Mountain Resort (formally Big Mountain Resort) is located in the Rocky Mountains of Northwest Montana, near the stunning Glacier National Park and just 7 miles from the beautiful town of Whitefish.

The ski resort is easily accessed through Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell which is only 18 miles away. It is also easily accessible from Canada (Fernie is only 2 hours away across the border) thereby creating the 'two nation vacation’. It makes an excellent choice as part of the Rockies Loop Safari.

Whitefish has not only recently changed its name but has also invested a lot of money in improvements. It now has a brand new high-end Base Lodge with leather sofas and open fire places, 2 new high-speed quad lifts, a new beginners ski area and an expanded terrain park.  In addition, there are lots of new accommodation options, the majority centrally located and ski in ski out. The full service Mountain Village offers over 200 lodging properties, ranging from value hotel rooms to luxurious town homes.

Whitefish Mountain Resort boasts an average of 300 inches of Rocky Mountain snow, over 3,000 acres of terrain and blissfully un-crowded slopes served by 12 lifts, including 3 high-speed quads. There is something for everyone with top-to-bottom corduroy groomers, adventurous chutes, massive bowls and snowghost-infested glades and topped off with amazing views of the wilderness of the Glacier National Park.

Winter activities, in addition to skiing and snowboarding, include cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, cat skiing, guided tours of Glacier National Park, and Moonlight Dine & Ski evenings during the full moon.

The historic town of Whitefish offers a vibrant mix of shops, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, cinema, spas, live music and energetic nightlife. There is a free resort shuttle bus to get you to and from town.
