Andermatt is a lovely little resort located in the heart of the Swiss Alps and conveniently within 2 hours of Zurich. The resort has changed very little over the last 40 years and the hotels (mostly 2 and 3 star) remain as they were when first built. There has been recent investment with brand new luxury hotels and apartments due for completion in the next couple of years. So get to this little gem before the crowds discover it!
Andermatt resort with the towering Gemsstock Mountain has always been a Mecca for advanced skiers in search of off-piste terrain. The ski area "Ursnertal" (Naetschen, Gemsstock, Oberalp/Sedrun) also offers a range of slopes for all standards. There are plans in the pipeline to link the resorts Andermatt and Sedrun. You can currently ski both resorts on one lift pass, and a train can be caught between the two.
Night-life isn’t necessarily the main attraction in Andermatt, but there is a good après scene at the Spycher or Pinte to enjoy some drinks after a day on the slopes, and the Gotthard bar if you fancy continuing the night.
