Latest News on British Airways Strikes

The trade union representing BA’s cabin crew, Unite, has announced the result of its latest strike ballot, with a majority of those voting supporting industrial action.  However, negotiations between Unite and the airline continue and no dates for any action have been announced.

Until any strike dates are announced, BA are operating their flight programme as normal and their standard booking conditions apply with regard to amending or cancelling existing bookings.  In the event that strike dates are announced and do go ahead, BA are working on contingency plans to allow them to operate as much of their flight programme as possible.  They will announce details of the options available to any customers whose flights are affected by strike action.

We will keep our website up to date with information as we receive it and, if any strikes do go ahead, we will contact any customers affected to offer assistance.  Further information can also be found on the BA website.  Any strike action would have to begin by 22 March and the union must give 7 days notice of intended action.

We also recommend that you make sure BA have a contact phone number and email address for you, so that if your flight is cancelled they can inform you as soon as possible.  These details can be entered via 'Manage My Booking' on the BA website.

11 March update

The latest round of talks between Unite and BA ended last night without reaching an agreement.  Further negotiations could still be agreed to try to avoid any strikes taking place and union officials are meeting this morning to consider their next move.

If they do intend to strike, they must give 7 days notice of any strike date and have to announce strike dates by 15 March at the latest.

Until any action has been announced and BA have issued a policy giving details of the options available to customers affected by strike dates, BA's standard booking conditions apply and there is unfortunately nothing we can do but wait to hear from Unite and BA.

12 March update

Unite have announced strike dates as follows:

20, 21, 22 March

27, 28, 29, 30 March

Flights scheduled for 24 hours either side of these dates could also be affected.  Strikes can still be avoided if cabin crew accept new terms proposed by BA.  The union is balloting its members on this proposal today.

We now have to wait for BA to let us know what options they will give to customers travelling on these dates.  BA have stated on their website that they hope to operate as many long-haul flights as possible.

Please make sure that BA have a contact phone number and email address for you, so that if your flight is cancelled they can inform you as soon as possible.  These details can be entered via 'Manage My Booking' on the BA website.

15 March

BA have now announced details of their flight programme for the first strike period, 20-22 March, and we have contacted all customers affected.  Some transatlantic flights have been cancelled, others are operating as scheduled but with a different level of onboard service.  Some short-haul and domestic services have also been cancelled.

BA are still planning their flight programme for the second strike period, 27-30 March, and do not plan to announce details until 22 March.  We will contact customers affected as soon as we have more information.
