Why Voss?
This small town is a magnet for adrenaline fuelled sports and has been hosting an extreme sports week for the last 15 years. In the middle of March enthusiasts and top freeriders, kite skiers, speedriders, skydivers, paragliders and back-country skiers descend on Voss from around the globe. For winter 2013 from 2nd -10th March Voss takes centre stage and will be host to the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup.
Voss proudly boasts to have brought up more winter Olympic athletes than any other town in the world. Something in the water you might say – well it does actually export that too! Branded Voss Water, it appears at some of the most prestigious restaurants and bars around the globe.
Brits in particular always receive a warm welcome here. We were amongst the first tourists to visit Voss back in the middle of the 19th century enjoying the salmon fishing, hiking and mountain climbing in the area. In the 1960s skiing became a major focus and today Voss offers 2 modern ski areas – Voss Resort and Voss Fjellandsby in nearby Myrkdalen.
