"Easy to explore on foot and one of the few capitals where you really get a sense of space rather than feeling overcrowded. Oslo ranks as a city with one of highest qualities of life in Europe. It's a great place to explore either pre or post skiing."

Attractions

A visit to Oslo isn't complete without a visit to see some of its Viking heritage. The Viking Ship Museum houses some of the world's best preserved long boats from the 9th century. Other must see attractions include:

Akershus Fortress - Strategically located in a commanding position overlooking Oslo Fjord, this medieval castle dating from the 1300s is bursting with history and next to the popular Aker Brygge area - harbourside shopping, dining and entertainment.

National Gallery - Home to Norway's largest collection of artwork including the world famous "Scream" painted by the Norwegian, Edvard Munch.

Holmenkollen Ski Museum and Tower - Norway is widely regarded as the birthplace of skiing. This museum showcases 4,000 years of ski history inside one of Oslo's most prominent landmarks and pieces of modern architecture - the ski jump tower. Take a trip to the top for the views. You can even try out the neighbouring ski jump simulator.

The Norwegian National Opera and Ballet - The world's first opera house allowing visitors to walk on the roof. The design takes inspiration from a glacier and it has a water-side location in the old harbour area of Bjørvika right beside the Oslo central train station.

Vigeland Sculpture Park - Located in Frogner Park displaying the life's works of sculptor, Gustav Vigeland. There are more than 200 eye catching sculptures dedicated to human form made from bronze and granite.

Fram Museum - Located on the Bygdøy peninsula - one of Oslo's most prestigious addresses. The Fram was the strongest wooden ship ever built designed to make voyages to the extremes of the Arctic and Antarctic. It was used by Norway's Roald Amundsen who famously beat Scott in the race to the South Pole.

Oslo Winter Park - the capital’s ski resort. A short ride on the metro takes you up past amazing views over the city, fjord and forests beyond, connecting to a bus up to the ski area itself. With 18 varied slopes, there’s something for everyone. There’s a slope-style course, a half pipe and a super pipe, and even cross country tracks. Oslo Winter Park is also completely carbon neutral, and it’s open until 10pm during the week.
