Hotel Portillo

Expert Opinion

"Hotel Portillo is a resort in itself with masses of facilities. It has a slightly old-world atmosphere and rooms are basic. It is worth paying for a lake view room, although the lake may be frozen."

The Hotel Portillo is like a large yellow ocean liner docked conveniently for the slopes and views of the lake. The dining room has wood-panelled walls and the captain (Henry Purcell, the resort owner) sits at the same table each night. Waiters in red uniforms bring trays of pisco sours (the local, very potent tipple) and delicious seafood dishes.

Property
Facilities

Like a liner the hotel has an incredible range of facilities on board including an outdoor pool, fitness centre, sauna, beauty salon, gym, games room, disco, bar with live music, and cinema. There is also a dining room, cafeteria, shop, daycare and nursery, clinic and cybercafe.

Room Types

There are several room types including doubles, family apartments and suites all with private bathroom, telephone and safe. Some of the rooms have a mountain view from the valley side while the rest have a view of the lake. The lake view is especially spectacular . Although the rooms are comfortable they are basic by North American standards. There are no TVs, although TV is available in the cinema.
