Colorado, and in particular Breckenridge, is widely renowned for having the best, most consistent, driest, powder conditions in the world. Go and read the headlines. This is whilst every year we hear about how one region of the world or another is having a disastrous early season or unseasonably warm mid-seasons or that there's the great snow at the top of the mountain but rain in the village.
We hear about them but we don't experience them firsthand.
Why?
Breckenridge is high - 2,900 m in the Village and nearly 4.000 m on top and the average snowfall totals are 9m per year.
Breckenridge is dry - located just east of the second largest desert in North America, the prevailing winds blow the warm dry air up over the Rocky Mountains where it cools and condenses dropping perfect powder snow unlike any major ski destinations in the world.
Breckenridge has one of the most state-of-the art snowmaking systems in the world - in the event that mother nature did have a surprise for us, we can open more runs with man-made snow than some resorts have in total.
Breckenridge is part of a major family of nearby ski resorts - your lift ticket is valid at nearby Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Vail and Beaver Creek (which all have massive snowmaking capabilities also). You are guaranteed more skiing, even if the unthinkable were to happen, than anywhere else in North America and more than most other places in the world.
Breckenridge doesn't measure in kilometers of terrain - like all North American resorts we measure in total area as there is no such thing as on-piste and off-piste. You can ski everywhere within our boundary areas and you don't need special insurance to do so. Just imagine what it's like skiing away from the crowds with over 12,000 skiable acres of wide open powder, tree skiing or just our normal wide groomed runs between the trees.
We know you are going to ski other resorts and we know that other resorts have a lot to offer . . . most years. But for the best, most consistent snow conditions in the world - from mid October until mid April (and then we only close because of a lack of interest - not a lack of snow), then there really is no other resort like Breckenridge.
