Canadian Cabins
One of the best ways to experience skiing in the Canadian Rockies is to stay in a log cabin set amongst the trees, surrounded by snow. The properties below provide this type of experience, although each does it in a slightly different way:
Baker Creek Chalets, nr Lake Louise
Staying at the Baker Creek Chalets is a fantastic experience and probably exactly what you had in mind if you were thinking of staying in a cabin. There are a range of cabin types with different bed configurations and facilities. Most are suitable for couples and small families rather than larger groups and some have wood-burning fireplaces and jacuzzis.
The property is located between Banff and Lake Louise in a fairly remote setting and although there are a number of cabins and some shared facilities, Baker Creek Chalets is an ideal getting-away-from-it-all experience.
Jasper Park Lodge, Jasper
This superb Lodge has a range of luxurious cabins set in its lakeside grounds. These include:
Athabasca Cottage
This secluded cabin is popular for honeymoons and anniversaries and has one bedroom with a queen-size bed. There is a bathroom with whirlpool and a sitting room with wood-burning fireplace. Amenities include high-speed internet access, bathrobes, feather duvets and coffee maker and kettle.
Viewpoint Cabin
This historic 3-bedroom cabin was built in 1931 and is a great place for a family to stay. There is an enclosed verandah surrounding the living and dining rooms, a full kitchen, stone fireplaces and a games room with private sauna downstairs. Amenities include high-speed internet access, bathrobes, feather duvets and coffee maker and kettle.
Other cabins include the Whistler Cabins which have 2 bedrooms and great views of the lake, Gardener's Cottage with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and pool table and Point Cabin built in 1928 with 5 bedrooms and a lakeshore location.
Emerald Lake Lodge, nr Lake Louise

The Emerald Lake Lodge is approximately a 20min drive away from Lake Louise ski resort and has rooms located in cabin-style buildings along the shores of the stunning Emerald Lake. Although you won't have a stand-alone cabin, its fantastically secluded location and wood-burning fireplaces have a real flavour of backwoods Canada - a great place to relax and recharge the batteries!
